Disney’s Mulan Deleted Scene: Reflection
In my opinion, deleting this scene from “Reflection” was a terrible mistake. The song is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but this added part takes a somewhat disparing song and makes being different empowering and strong.
WHY WASN’T THIS HERE
wow. just wow
I don’t understand. It’s beautiful. Wow disney.
Yeah, Lea Salonga was heartbroken that they cut the song. I can understand why. This part is inspirational.
wtf disney :c
I watched the movie recently for the first time since my childhood and I realised just how short Reflection actually goes for. They really needed this scene not only for beautiful imagery (Oh God, the thought of Mulan’s long hair as she’s racing through the wind, just let me die happy) and character development/story-telling, but for the pacing of the song. I honestly don’t understand why they could take this out.
Dear Disney,
WTF?!
Signed,
MeWHAT THE FUCK
WHO THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO CUT THIS
IMO, while this IS a beautiful scene and wonderfully crafted and well done, I can see why they cut it.
The Scene portrays Mulan as an already empowered woman, but the whole story is about her going into the military while still being meek and very, very unsure of herself. It’s not a too-typical coming of age story and in reality she’s not a badass until the end of the movie- I wouldn’t even call her a badass until really after the Avalanche scene when she finally goes up against the BigBad and gets stabbed, and even then she’s not really being a badass in the sense (I mean her contribution is rather passive and she doesn’t actively try to fight with a sword or anything) that this scene portrays.
Basically, it was showing more of what her character is at the end of the film (badass, fearless, sure of herself, strong), at the beginning of the film. Ergo, it had to be cut.
That is a fair point…
Good point 2 comments up. Still a beautiful scene!
